Afterword: 120 Mile Adventure: (Fayette Michigan to Mackinac Bridge)

What an absolutely incredible 120+ mile adventure we just shared through Michigan's stunning Upper Peninsula! Starting in that charming little town of Gladstone, then cruising through Garden - you could see why I love these hidden UP gems. But man, when we reached Fayette Historic Townsite, that place just completely blew me away, and I could tell it hit you guys the same way.

Walking through those perfectly preserved 1800s iron smelting buildings with you all was something special - the way that town feels completely frozen in time is just unreal. Those historic trails, the old marina, and especially that hotel where all the town's incredible stories came to life - you could feel the history in every step we took together.

Then that epic 120-mile drive east to the mighty Mackinac Bridge - what a journey that was! And hitting that northernmost point on Lake Michigan along the way? Pure Upper Peninsula magic right there. The way this hidden gem showcased that pristine preservation against that stunning lakefront setting was everything I hoped it would be when I planned this trip.

Then: Mackinac Bridge to Tunnel of Trees): 100 Mile Road Trip

We kicked off this Northern Michigan adventure by conquering the legendary Mackinac Bridge—5 miles of steel suspended over the powerful straits where Lake Michigan and Lake Huron collide. That wasn't just a bridge crossing; it was a gateway to pure Great Lakes magic.

We caught first light at Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse in Mackinaw City, where the sunrise over Lake Huron painted the sky in colors we had to see to believe. The morning air was crisp, the paths were peaceful, and that historic beacon set the tone for an unforgettable day.

Then we hit McGulpin Point Lighthouse, standing guard over waters that have claimed countless ships over the centuries. The stories there are as deep as the lakes themselves, and the views? We already know they were absolutely worth the stop.

We headed to Lake Michigan's wild side—Sturgeon Bay's pristine beaches and towering dunes that felt like we stepped into a postcard. That crystal-clear water and untouched shoreline reminded us why Pure Michigan isn't just a slogan.

We rolled into Cross Village and discovered the one-of-a-kind Legs Inn—part restaurant, part art gallery, all character. Then came the main event: the Tunnel of Trees Scenic Byway. We just experienced that winding, canopy-covered road delivering non-stop gorgeous views—might just be the most beautiful drive in the Midwest.

Lastly: Colorado US Highway 40: (Rocky Mountain Small Town) Hidden Gems
 
Thanks for joining me as we explored those two incredible lakeside towns! We kicked things off in historic Port Clinton, where you saw us wandering through that charming old downtown district and checking out all that beautiful architecture that really captures the essence of a classic Great Lakes fishing community.

Then we headed over to Marblehead, where you got to see Ohio's oldest lighthouse that's been standing guard over Lake Erie since 1821. We visited that iconic beacon together, walked along that rocky shoreline, and took in some of the most breathtaking water views the Midwest has to offer.

We wrapped everything up at the Surf Campground - that lakefront slice of paradise where you could hear the waves lapping the shore as our evening soundtrack.
