Earp is most famously remembered for his participation in the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral in 1881. This shootout pitted him, his brothers Virgil and Morgan, and the infamous Doc Holliday against a group of outlaws known as the Cowboys. The gunfight lasted only about 30 seconds but had a lasting impact on Western lore and Earp's reputation. Though the Earps and Holliday prevailed, it did not fully quell tensions in Tombstone.
